The RUBICON 6 is already aiming to become the speaker of choice in this new range of loudspeakers. When the RUBICON range was shown at the Munich Audio Show earlier this year, the RUBICON 6 was considered by many of the dealers who heard this new speaker to be the star in this range. So great was their admiration for the RUBICON 6 that the advanced orders for this model have guaranteed that it will initially be in short supply.

The RUBICON 6 is a larger floor standing loudspeaker than the 5, with greater power handling and suitable for larger rooms, it still has a very narrow front profile like the 5's and has the same character of sound. This is a great loudspeaker for the audiophile who plays their music at a higher level than others. If you have a larger than average room, then it is worth considering the larger EPICON 8 as an alternative.

Low-loss technology
The cone used in the RUBICON series draws upon the heritage from the EPICON technologies, and has a light, rigid and randomly uneven structure. This lower the complexity of the central part of the motor, ensures even piston like movements, reduces the possibility of surface resonance greatly and creates an extremely low distortion within the RUBICON series. The soft low-loss rubber surround is designed and bespoke specifically for the RUBICON series, and all of the components are situated in an aluminum chassis designed for maximum airflow around the cone and magnet system.

In the RUBICON series, DALI makes use of both the soft dome tweeter working alone, and the hybrid tweeter configuration an amazing rendering of the high frequencies. The voice coil used in the RUBICON series is designed to be very light and agile in order to achieve a broader bandwidth. This lighter voice coil is placed inside a powerful ferrite magnet that keeps a tight control of its movements. The ribbon tweeter is the master of wide dispersion and combining it with the soft dome, the tweeter module starts working as low as 2.5 KHz. This extreme bandwidth combined with the ultra wide dispersion is an important part of the DALI sound philosophy.

The gracefully elegant exterior of the RUBICON works as the base for the low-loss drivers. In every cabinet, the mid-range and bass drivers are separated into their own chambers. Turbulence is minimized through a bass reflex port, which is placed directly behind every woofer, and the timing between the woofer and the bass port is thereby also optimized.

RUBICON 6: Review by American The Absolute Sound
The Absolute Sound (US)

The Absolute Sound has had the opportunity to listen to the RUBICON 6 and according to them “the R6 is tonally pretty accurate if not deadbang neutral. There’s some upper-mid leanness and added low-end bloom and chestiness, but these do not undermine the vibrancy and musicality of the R6 personality.”

Furthermore, they praise the RUBICON 6 as “a versatile speaker that doesn’t discriminate between musical genres. It’s just as happy reproducing the finesse of small-scale chamber music, an a capella vocal, or an intimate jazz setting, as it is a full-blown orchestra with chorus. Its near full-range low-end response is abundant with tuneful midbass output into the upper thirties.”
The Absolute Sound’s conclusion is that “After hearing the Rubicon 6 you’re never going to want to go back again. Delightful.”

In the beginning of this year The Absolute Sound reviewed the DALI RUBICON 6, which they called "a Danish delight" (read more here) and now they have included the RUBICON 6 in the 2016 Editor’s Choice Award in the category Loudspeakers $5,000-10,000.
Their reason for including the RUBICON 6 is that it: “[…] exemplifies a ripe, rich sound with outstanding upper-octave delicacy, thanks to the superb hybrid dome/ribbon tweeter configuration.” Furthermore, they note that “Blessed with considerable slam, it has a bold, effortless, near-full-range sound that can be a bit plummy in the midbass.”
The Absolute Sound concludes that the RUBICON 6 “makes a superb musical statement in its segment.”
