Pro-Ject

The Pro-Ject RPM Range has recently updated and limited to two new models. The RPM 1 replaces the highly successful Genie model, while the RPM 3 Carbon features a new carbon tonearm and has several major updates taken from more expensive models in Pro-Ject range of turntables.

Pro-Ject are offering Pick-IT-DS2 MC Cartridge bundled with the RPM 5, RPM 9 or RPM 10 turntables for an additional £425 over the basic cost of the turntable without cartridge. This represents a saving of £100 on the cost of the cartridge on it's own - £525

RPM 3 Carbon £749.00

The latest edition to the RPM range of turntables follows on from where the hugely popular Genie 3 left off. The RPM 3 Carbon boasts a number of improvements from its sibling, the new RPM 1 Carbon. Also available in Black, Red or White

The new RPM 3 Carbon design has been upgraded to significantly reduce resonance across the turntable. While maintaining the instantly recognisable shape, this turntable boasts improvements in the tonearm, bearing, and motor.

The brand new tonearm is a carbon fibre/aluminium resin construct, made using special heat and pressure treatments. The result of this new design is a tonearm that is more solid and anti-resonant than ever before at this price, while maintaining a light weight. The arm is finished off with a pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge and a new magnetic anti-skate mechanism. The improved counterweight also utilises TPE damping in the form of an anti-resonant ring around the fixing point.

The new vinyl topped sandwich platter creates the perfect surface for your vinyl to play on with no need for a mat.

The completely decoupled motor is based upon the same design as the Xpression Carbon, powered by an AC generator that's connected to the new DC power supply. The inverted main bearing now utilises a ceramic ball, offering a more fluid and consistent platter rotation than ever before.

Available in Red, White or Black high gloss finishes, the RPM 3 Carbon is a turntable package that offers truly phenomenal value for money.

The distinctive design of the RPM 5 continues to live through its latest incarnation, the RPM 5 Carbon. Using the previous building blocks of what made the RPM 5 and 5.1 a greatly revered turntable, now adopts new innovative techniques from its big brother the RPM 9 Carbon.

Each part of the RPM 5 Carbon all cumulates into an unrivalled performer. From the pre mounted 9” carbon fibre evolution tonearm with TPE dampened counterweight vibrations are kept to a bare minimum to guarantee flawless vinyl playback.

The new developments on the low resonance chassis which holds a newly designed inverted platter bearing with ceramic ball helps further reduced any rumble. The acoustically inert platter is machined from a large piece of acrylic. The use of acrylic reduces tinny frequencies and helps accentuate the mid-range better.

The RPM 5 Carbon’s plinth is topped with carbon fibre and a choice of high-gloss black, white or red finish.

Through intensive listening tests, Pro-ject learnt that different materials transmit their own specific 'resonating fingerprint' on the acoustic performance in the vinyl playback process. As a result they developed a specialised measurement process, wherein all the acoustic effects on sound output are now totally comprehensible and understandable.

The main findings from this new means of testing was that higher mass materials cause the resonance amplitude to be lower. Moreover, by using combinations of different materials, resonances become even more diffused and less apparent on the audio performance. The new RPM 10.1 chassis is the end-result of this research...

Chambers within the RPM 10.1 chassis are filled with steel filings and metal, giving it a high mass, allowing the structure to dampen all resonances effectively. The platter is also very heavy, helping add mass and reduce resonance again. However, the advantage of high mass can also result in a higher rumble of the main bearing. So to avoid the decline of sound quality in this respect, magnets are positioned to make the platter almost float on the inverted main bearing, with its ceramic ball and plate.

All other design features are well known from the highly acclaimed RPM 9, and the deck also benefits from a 10" Evolution tonearm, and is supplied with a Pro-Ject Ground-IT Deluxe 3 - further isolating the turntable from resonant sources.

Pristine bass dynamics and an overall calmness are the clear advantages inherent within this model, compared to all other turntables of the Pro-Ject family.

Key Features:

Turntable
Chassis, motor housing and granulate filled equipment base Ground it deluxe piano-lacquered dark grey.
The equipment base Ground it deluxe rests on four individually height-adjustable magnetic field feet.
A quiet running AC motor with a two-step pulley drives the platter's outside edge via a belt.
The medium density fibre plinth stands on three height-adjustable Sorbothane®-damped aluminium cones.
Granulate filled plinth guarantees constant damping. A supplied spirit level allows easy adjustment.
The motor is mounted in a separate metal housing to eliminate vibration transmission.
The resonance-optimised platter is a sandwich construction utilising an acrylic platter weighing 5.4Kg and a brass record puck.
The magnet supported (amount of support adjustable), inverted bearing uses a stainless-steel axle carrying a ceramic ball on which the ceramic bearing plate runs.
Central metal block optimises centre of gravity and damps main bearing.
Connection to the phono input of the amplifier can be made with connecting cables of your taste through the gold plated phono sockets and earth screw. A standard cable is provided.
External power supply avoids potential electro-mechanical interference.
Tonearm Pro-Ject 10cc Evolution
The headshell and armtube are fashioned from a single piece of carbon-fibre.
Conical armtube avoids standing wave reflections.
Inverted tonearm bearing comprises four hardened stainless tips in ABEC7 spec ballraces.
Rings provide very solid arm bearing housings. The massive outside ring is open to avoid resonances.
Sorbothane®-damped counterweight effectively counteracts unwanted resonances.
The counterweights supplied are suitable for cartridges weighing between 4 - 6g, 5 - 8g, 6 - 10g or 8 - 14g
Counterweight shaft lowered to record level reduces cantilever forces and dynamic wow when playing warped records.
Solid armbase permits accurate height adjustment of armtube and VTA (vertical tracing angle).
Single-screw fixing of armtube allows rotation for easy adjustment of needle azimuth despite fixed headshell.
Silicone-damped armlift can be adjusted to suit working height of the arm.
The internal wiring consists of flexible high-purity copper from the headshell right through to the gold-plated phono sockets.

Pro-Ject RPM 1 Carbon

Price: £429.00

The RPM 1 Carbon turntable follows on from where the hugely popular RPM 1.3 Genie left off. Utilising a range of innovative improvements over its predecessor, the latest affordable RPM model stands out from the crowd with its stunning design, impeccable sound and affordable price.
The RPM 1 Carbon design has been upgraded to significantly reduce resonances across the turntable. While retaining the instantly recognisable shape of the Genie, this turntable still boasts improvements in the tonearm, bearing, and motor.
The new tonearm is a carbon fibre/aluminium resin construct, made using special heat and pressure treatments. The result of this new design is a tonearm that is more solid and anti-resonant than ever before at this price, while maintaining a light weight for improved cartridge tracking. The RPM 1 Carbon tonearm is supplied with a pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Red cartridge and a new magnetic anti-skate mechanism. The improved counterweight also utilises TPE damping in the form of an anti-resonant ring around the fixing point.
