Quad Company Logo

The name of Peter Walker and the company he founded - QUAD have been ingrained in the history of Audio Reproduction around the world. Not only famous for the classic Electrostatic Loudspeakers he designed in 1957, were followed in 1958 with Stereo Reproduction. Peter Walker’s name has always been associated with the electronics he developed - in particular Amplifiers. Peter Walker’s valve and transistor designed amplifiers live on today in QUAD’s ranges of valve and transistor amplifiers. Quad products have always been some of the finest audio products in the world.

In 1936, Peter Walker started producing public address systems, few could predict that many of his products would have the longevity and the esteem with which they would be held. In the 1950’s, Peter Walker and Gilbert Briggs (founder of Wharfedale), embarked on a series of famous concerts, demonstrating that real high-fidelity music reproduction should be virtually indistinguishable from a live performance. They toured as far as the United States and demonstrated in venues as diverse as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. Audiences were truly amazed in the similarity that the Quad amplifiers were able to reproduce relative to the live performance.

Dooleys HiFi are pleased to be continuing our association with QUAD with the Classic Line of Electrostatic Loudspeakers, Valve Amplification, Artera and Vena electronics and QUAD’s ranges of Dynamic loudspeakers, the S- and Z - Series.
Quad-II Forty

Quad QII-Forty Power Amplifier

£1999.99 Each

£3999.00 for a Stereo pair

The Quad II-forty power amplifier is much more than a tribute to one of the most famous designs in audio – but refined and powerful in the modern sense of the terms. Although the circuit topology has changed a little from the original, significantly better components and a brand new transformer design have been engineered. While still being delicately balanced a fast, crisp and detailed sound is achieved, whilst producing an output current suitable for modern loudspeakers, including our very own ESL. KT-88 output valves work in a push-pull configuration, while a choice of 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm taps allows for a wide choice of loudspeaker configurations.

Quad QC Twenty Four Pre-Amp

Quad QC-Twenty Four Pre-Amp

£1099.99

With the QC Twenty Four pre amp, our designer scoured the globe for the very finest components, with possibly the best example of this being the new ‘old stock’ 6111WA double triode.

With transformers designed by one of the world’s leading authorities and relay input switching the musical signal is preserved in its purest form – pursuant to the philosophy of the theoretical perfect amplifier which Peter Walker himself stated is, ‘a straight wire with gain’. The QC Twenty Four has 2 main outputs, 2 Tape Play and Record connections and inputs for CD, Tuner, Aux 1, Aux 2 and an optional Phono port.

QC-Twenty Four Pe-Amp Specification

Valve Complement 1x 6111 twin triode

Hum and Noise Better than -80dB
Line Stage Gain 15dB
Recommended Minimum Load 50 k Ohms
Inputs 5 x Line level
2 x Buffered tape loops
Power Consumption 15VA maximum
Quad QC Twenty Four Phono

Quad QC Twenty Four P - Phono Stage

£1099.99

With the analogue purist in mind the Twenty Four P has a moving magnet / moving coil toggle switch and direct / variable level control over volumes for use with all kinds of amplification. Unlike the power amplifiers, the Quad pre amplifiers utilise a completely new design. Together with transformers designed by one of the world’s leading authorities and relay input switching the musical signal is preserved in its purest form – pursuant to the philosophy of the theoretical perfect amplifier which a Peter Walker himself stated, is ‘a straight wire with gain’.
