Pro-Ject X2 Balanced

Pro-Ject X2 B (Balanced)

Price: £1499.00

includes a pre-adjusted Ortofon Quintet Red moving coil cartridge

he X2 B is a luxury high-end turntable that can push your musical enjoyment to new limits thanks to Pro-Ject’s True Balanced Connection concept. It features a high-quality moving coil cartridge and balanced output option for class-leading convenience and sonic superiority.

Structurally the X2 B is supported by its large, CNC machined MDF chassis, sat upon three vibration-absorbing feet, reducing unwanted resonances to almost imperceptible levels. Inside, it houses a sophisticated DC/AC generator board which, combined with the convenient speed control board (for automatic switching between 33 and 45 RPM as well as additional 78 RPM support), delivers clean and stable power to the silent motor system. For even further improved performance, the motor is carefully balanced and suspended on a precision tuned TPE belt; effectively decoupling the motor from the main plinth.

In the X2 B, the motor drives a heavy, non-resonant Acryl platter via a sub-platter drive system and a premium grade main bearing for liquid smooth rotation. This is the perfect platform on which to place your precious vinyl records, guaranteeing absolute reliability in its performance and sonic character.

The X2 B also benefits from a one-piece Carbon/Alu tonearm with integrated headshell. This 9” tonearm design is incredibly light and stiff, with improved resistance to external interference and better internal damping. The tonearm can also be adjusted for accurate azimuth and VTA settings, allowing advanced analogue audiophiles to fine-tune their sound. The tonearm is then supplied with a TPE-damped counterweight, further reducing cartridge/tonearm resonances.

Supplied with an Ortofon Quintet Red moving coil cartridge pre-installed, the X2 B is capable of benefiting from Pro-Ject’s True Balanced Connections concept. By connecting to a balanced-capable phono stage using the mini-XLR output on the back of the turntable, you can benefit from increased dynamics, less noise and improved signal-to-noise ratios. Going true balanced is like hearing parts of your music that were not there before.

The X2 B is fine-tuned to focus on audio excellence. It has all the features needed for convenient day-to-day use, but no superfluous add-ons that start to negatively impact the sonic character. The end result is a highly engaging, musical turntable that delivers deep, detailed lows, crisp high frequencies and an engaging well-presented midrange. By going True Balanced, it also avoids any unwanted electrical interference commonly found in your home.

Due to Pro-Ject’s advanced manufacturing experience, while delivering great sound the X2 B is also a beautiful piece of engineering that can stand proud as the focal point in any home environment. It’s available in four finishes; a premium walnut wood veneer, a luxurious black 8-layer high gloss paint, or black or white eight-layer hand-polished satin paint.

X8

Pro-Ject X8

Price: £2249.00

Fitted with Ortofon Quintet Blue MC Cartridge

Available in High Gloss Black/White or Walnut

The X8 brings the performance of - Xtension 9 and 10 within reach
The X8 is the most affordable mass-loaded turntable yet. Positioned neatly between the X2 and Xtension 9, the X8 adopts and breaks down its bigger siblings' features to make mass-loaded high-end design principles as accessible as never before.

The X8 offers a heavy, TPE damped mass-loaded platter precision lathed from a single aluminium block and finely balanced. On the Xtension 9 and 10 you cannot really play around with using different mats due to the glued on vinyl top. The X8 comes with a standard felt mat, also allowing you to experiment with different material mats in the future and tailor the sound to your taste.

A neodymium magnet decreases the load on the ceramic tipped bearing. Considering the massively heavy platter, this leads to a smoothly rotating base for your vinyl records and perfect speed stability.

he X8 inherited the massive MDF chassis and the top-of-the-line Pro-Ject 9cc EVO carbon tonearm from its larger siblings. The height-adjustable X8 features machined aluminium feet. The TPE damping technology in the feet effectively decouples the X8 from the surface it is placed on. The feet are a great choice for a more budget orientated turntable as they are faster and easier to set up than magnetic feet on the X9/10, and also require less maintenance.

Pro-Ject are launching a whole line of new “True Balanced Connection” components that feature a balanced connection for your phono setup. The X8 is our first turntable to feature this new phono technology.

Turntables look back on a long history. Over time, many things have changed, not only from technical possibilities, but also from the environment. Wireless networks are omni present and countless electronic devices make your home „smarter“. This means there are now a lot of additional electromagnetic fields, which could interfere with your turntable‘s signal. This was simply not the case 30 years ago. To ensure the best connection to your phono preamplifier we designed our „True Balanced Connection“.

WHAT'S TRUE BALANCED?

Balanced audio connections are usually known from the professional sector like recording studios or live concerts. It is very important to have a stable & interference free connection, as these signals will be highly amplified. The same applies to the connection from your turntable to the phono preamplifier. The big advantage of a balanced connection is its ability to remove picked up noise and interferences. And best of all, cartridges by nature are already balanced signal transducers! With True Balanced your are simply using everything, literally everything, that your cartridge is picking up from the record groove. You are not throwing away half of the usable signal, like is done in typical single-ended RCA phono connections.

The X8 comes with a 5pin output jack and with our standard semi-balanced Connect it Phono E 5P -> RCA cable. By upgrading it to our fully balanced 5P to XLR version (available separately) and using a balanced phono stage, like our Phono Box DS3 B or any of our RS/RS2 phono stages, you are fully set-up for the True Balanced experience. This leads to increased dynamics, less noise and improved signal to noise ratios. You can imagine it, like hearing parts of your music that literally were not there before.

Configure your Xtension 9

High-end turntable with 9" evo tonearm

The Xtension 9 is an ideal solution for anyone who is looking for the exceptional sound quality of a high-end turntable, but with a more compact foot-print.

Benefiting from decades of turntable design experience, the Xtension 9's structure uses a combination of the popular 'mass-loaded' and 'floating turntable' design principles. Most high-end designs tend to employ one of these principles, but the Xtension 9 uses both. It does this by placing the high-mass, anti-resonant main chassis on three powerful magnetic feet, effectively "floating" the turntable above the stand on which it sits.

The precision-balanced platter used on the Xtension 9 is made from a purpose-chosen metal alloy, which has then been internally lined with a Thermo-Plastic Elastomer (TPE) compound. The top of the platter is finished with recycled vinyl records, which acts as the perfect playback platform for the playing record - without the need for an extra mat. The result is a resonance-free platter, which runs ultra-silently on an inverted ceramic ball-bearing thanks to some added magnetic isolation.

Operation of the Xtension 9 is made effortlessly simple by the integrated speed control. Providing a clean, regulated power signal to the high-grade motor, the built-in speed control allows for easy switching between 33 and 45RPM speeds.

The Xtension 9 SuperPack is sold with Pro-Ject's popular 9CC Evolution tonearm pre-installed. The 9” tonearm boasts a one-piece conical carbon fibre tube, TPE-damped counterweights and an inverted bearing design that allows for perfect tracking and minimal resonance, even with demanding pick-up cartridges. In the SuperPack version, the tonearm is supplied finished with a Pick-IT DS2 MC moving coil cartridge. The Pick-IT DS2 MC, developed in partnership with Ortofon, combines Pro-Ject's vast experience with phenomenal sound and high-quality materials, with all of Ortofon's advanced knowledge of micro-technologies, to deliver a sound performance that puts others to shame.

For added convenience, the Xtension 9 SuperPack is supplied with a removable dust cover, a heavy record puck for improved record hold and a high-quality 5P-RCA output cable.

High-end turntable with 10“ tonearm

Superlative vinyl performance in a more compact size!

The Xtension 10 chassis is made from MDF filled with metal sand, that gives high mass and is non-resonant. Magnetic feet, which decouple the main plinth from its base, are combined with a weighty 22 kg total turntable mass. With these two magnets located in the feet, the turntable is practically floating. The result is a unique combination of ‘mass loaded’ and ‘floating turntable’ design principles. Instead of the old standard adoption of pure metal used for the main platter, we’ve found a perfect alloy which we damped on the inner side with Sorbothane®. Additionally we’ve glued recycled Vinyl records to the top (which act as a perfect mat) and bake this ‘sandwich’ before precision balancing it. The final product subsequently benefits from a wonderfully resonance-free, heavy platter, that runs ultra-silently on an inverted ceramic ball bearing with magnetic suspension. The Pro-Ject 10” Evolution with its tonearm base also benefits from ‘high-mass’ technologies, and is isolated from the main board by a sheet of Sorbothane®. To use this tonearm with a wide range of top quality phono cartridges, from 4 to 14 Grams it comes with a set of 4 different Sorbothane®- damped counterweights.

The Xtension 10 Evolution comes standard with the premium tonearm cable 5pin > RCA cable. For an optimal connection to the Phono Box RS or RS2, the symmetrical premium tonearm cable 5pin > XLR is available separately. Phono Box RS and RS2 offer balanced phono inputs, what guarantees superior results in high-end vinyl reproduction with a balanced signal source.

NOTE: The signal source and the receiving device have to be equipped with balanced connections. Transmission of audio signals in a balanced mode reduce the influence of interference due to external stray electric fields significantly.

Manual turntable with built in Pro-Ject Speed Box SE

The high-end classic!

We at Pro-Ject aim to bring back a classical analog concept from the eighties, and combine it with our advanced contemporary technologies. After eighteen years of turntable manufacturing for analog lovers on a budget, we’re delighted to announce our first deck not subscribed to budgetary limitations.

Already, the critically acclaimed 6perspeX has proved the fantastic result of using magnets to isolate the subchassis. So consequently, for the Xtension this technology has been re-developed to utilise new magnetic feet, which almost completely decouple the main plinth. With these two magnets located in the feet, the turntable is practically floating. Combine this with the weighty 25 kg total mass of the turntable, and the listener benefits from minimal base resonance. This is a unique combination of ‘mass loaded’ and ‘floating turntable’ design principals. In keeping with these principles, the platter is metal due to its high mass. The old standard adoption of pure metal has been abandoned because of its highly-resonant tendencies. Instead, we’ve found a perfect alloy which we dampened on the inner side with Sorbothane®. Taking this base, we’ve glued recycled Vinyl records to the top (which act as a perfect mat) and bake this ‘sandwich’ before precision balancing it. The final product subsequently benefits from a wonderfully resonance-free, heavy platter. Another consideration was the amount of energy the tonearm base would have to take from arm and cartridge movement. These energies have to be controlled, as do those from the motor and the bearing (they have to be kept away from the tonearm to avoid interference). Consequently, the tonearm base on the Xtension 12 Evolution also benefits from ‘high-mass’ technologies, and is isolated from the main board by a sheet of Sorbothane®. Importantly though, this board is still able to incorporate the adoption of different tonearms. As we originally premised with this turntable, to be in keeping with its ‘classic’ ethos, the Xtension comes with a beautiful dustcover with adjustable hinges.

The Xtension 12 Evolution comes standard with the premium tonearm cable 5pin > RCA cable.
